The City of Williamsburg is also one of the oldest cities in Virginia, founded as the capital of the Virginia Colony in 1699. Williamsburg is home to William and Mary College and its renowned law school. Williamsburg has a population of more than 14,000 residents in an area of less than nine square miles.
Williamsburg and James City County are part of Virginia’s Ninth Judicial Circuit, along with Charles City County, Gloucester County, King and Queen County, King William County, Mathews County, Middlesex County, New Kent County, Richmond City, and York County/Poquoson.
